“Let us remember that yoga is not a religion, but it is for all religions and races. Let us practice yoga and have a healthy body and mind,” the Minister of Health and Welfare said on Thursday. -Family being from Nagaland, S Pangnyu Phom.
Speaking on this occasion as a special guest of the Yogatsav-Countdown to International Yoga Day program under the theme “Yoga for Health” at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare (DoH&FW) on June 2, Pangyu said, “This year, the International Day of Yoga will be celebrated under the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’.
He informed that June 21 was recognized as International Yoga Day by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014 at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nagaland will also join the International Yoga Day along with the rest of the 193 countries on June 21, Pangyu informed.
Alongside Minister of Health, Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), T Yangseo Sangtam, other officials and staff from medical department and doctors from AYUSH participated in the session of the common yoga protocol.
Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John Zhale, State Program Manager, AYUSH National Mission, Nagaland, led the Common Yoga Protocol session. This was followed by two more sessions on ‘yoga for health’ and ‘the importance of yoga’. Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Vikato Kinimi, Senior Director, DoH&FW.
The program was organized by National AYUSH Mission Nagaland, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland in collaboration with National Institute of Yoga Morarji Desai, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
In order to celebrate the day of yoga in a grand way, Morarji Dasai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH Government of India, has organized Yoga Mahotsav- 2022 as an event to commemorate the 100 day countdown from April 7 to June 21 around the world.
Meanwhile, Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Indian Council for Cultural Relations are planning to come together to announce “My Yoga, My Heritage” similar to “My Life, My Yoga”.
