New Delhi [India]July 16 (ANI): Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday warned against forces and vested interests threatening the peace and integrity of the nation through a divisive agenda.
Emphasizing that “it is not Indian culture to denigrate any culture, religion or language”, he called on every citizen to take responsibility for thwarting such attempts to weaken India, unite and protect the interests of the nation.
The Vice President stressed that India‘s civilizational values teach respect and tolerance towards all cultures and that sporadic incidents cannot undermine India’s secular ethos.
Criticizing attempts to diminish India’s image on the international stage, Naidu reiterated that India’s parliamentary democracy and pluralistic values are a model for the world to emulate.
Publishing a book today on the life journey of freedom fighter and journalist Damaraju Pundarikakshudu in Vijayawada, Naidu said ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ gives us an opportunity to remember the many sacrifices made by our leaders and fighters of freedom during the struggle for freedom.
Naidu praised Yallapragada Mallikarjuna Rao, the author, for his efforts in researching and compiling the book.
Noting Damaraju’s great efforts to popularize Gandhiji’s contributions through songs and plays, Naidu called on the media to highlight the efforts of Indian freedom fighters through special programs and a series of articles to raise awareness. younger generations to the life lessons of our leaders.
The Vice President also called on the youth to strive to build an India free from poverty, illiteracy, social discrimination and atrocities against women as a “true tribute to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters”. .
He reminded us that a “divide” in society – between urban and rural areas, between social classes and between genders – ends up weakening the country.
Naidu, recalling the various efforts of the region’s leaders during the independence struggle, appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s gesture in unveiling the statue of the great freedom fighter, Alluri Sitarama Raju in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh recently.
On this occasion, the Vice President also distributed certificates to trainees of various skill development programs at Swarna Bharat Trust, Vijayawada.
He encouraged them to work hard in the discipline of their choice and to succeed.
Former Andhra Pradesh Minister, Kamineni Srinivas, book author, Yellapragada Mallikarjuna Rao, Swarna Bharat Trust management, other dignitaries and students attended the event. (ANI)
