El Paso to Celebrate Indian Culture with Big Festival

El Paso has always been home to many cultures around the world. El Paso will also host a big celebration of Indian culture in October; a celebration of Ratha Yatra.

If you are wondering, “what is the Ratha Yatra?“; it is one of the oldest and most sacred festivals in India taken from the words”ratha“meaning chariot, or car, &”yatrawhich means journey or pilgrimage. It is a great celebration of Hindu culture which is observed by taking an image of a deity through the streets in a chariot. These celebrations have been going on for CENTURIES all over the world. want to see what one of these celebrations looks like, here is an example:

It will be the first time that El Paso has organized a Rathayatra festival which is aptly called “The chariot festivalThe parade will begin at noon on October 2, located at 401 E Main St, opposite the Indigo Hotel. The parade will continue to San Jacinto Square, then return to its original location at 2 pm.

Then there will be a celebration with lots of Indian food that you can enjoy for free (including a vegetarian feast), stalls and gift shops, lots of activities like yoga and meditation and there will be music from the kirtan group The Mayapuri as well as theatrical performances by Collectif Preme.
