New Delhi: Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen in a viral video at a nightclub in Kathmandu.
The viral video apparently has a nightclub in the background with people around it seen drinking.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) taking snaps at the Congress leader’s party shared the video. BJP IT director Amit Malviya accused Gandhi of ignoring his own country as he was having fun in a nightclub.
“Rahul Gandhi was in a nightclub when Mumbai was under control. He is in a nightclub at a time when his party is exploding. He is consistent. Interestingly, soon after Congress refused to outsource its presidency, blockbuster jobs started on their Prime Ministerial Candidate…” Malviya tweeted along with the video.
Reacting to the BJP allegation, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said the Congress leader was in Nepal to attend a private wedding ceremony of a friend.
“Rahul Gandhi traveled to a friendly country, Nepal, to attend a private wedding ceremony of a friend who also happens to be a journalist. Last time I checked, having family and friends and attending wedding ceremonies is a matter of culture and civilization,” Surjewala told reporters.
“It still hasn’t become a crime in this country to attend a wedding celebration. Maybe after today the BJP may decide that it is illegal to attend a wedding and a crime to have friends,” he added.
The viral video came at a time when Congress is seen to be in a deep leadership crisis, with the party’s attempt to onboard poll strategist Prashant Kishor having failed.
Rahul Gandhi, who is in Kathmandu, reportedly attended a friend’s wedding a day ago. In the alleged video, the Congress leader is seen attending the party. The video has gone viral on various social media platforms.
According to an article in the Kathmandu Post, Rahul Gandhi landed in the Nepalese capital on Monday afternoon. The daily quotes Bhim Udas, a former Nepalese ambassador to Myanmar, as saying he invited Rahul Gandhi to attend his daughter’s wedding.
Udas’ daughter Sumnima, a former CNN correspondent, is getting married to Nima Martin Sherpa, according to the Nepalese publication.
The Kathmandu Post report said that in August 2018, Rahul Gandhi visited Kathmandu on his way to Kailash Mansarovar.
Rahul Gandhi was apparently in the viral video of a Lord of Rings nightclub. However, there is no independent authentication of the viral video content.
