During the past 20 years, NRCS programs have provided the Goshute Tribe technical assistance and up to 75% in funding cost share for irrigation, wildlife habitat and livestock grazing management practices. These costs included purchasing supplies such as troughs, pipeline, irrigation wheel line, a small irrigation reservoir and fence materials.
On September 18, 2006 a Cooperative Agreement between the Goshute Tribe and USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Agency was signed by Utah State Conservationist, Sylvia Gillen and Tribal Chairman, Rupert Steele.
NRCS Duty Station
Initial Tribal implementation of the Cooperative Agreement was to provide a Duty Station at the Tribal Center, to aid NRCS implementation of all described provisions and responsibilities in the Cooperative Agreement. A Soil Conservation Technician (Tribal Liaison) was funded by USDA. The Soil Conservation Tech. as a member of an interdisciplinary team will be able to provide technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, irrigation companies, local Tribal members and other groups in planning, application and implementation of practices. Milton Hooper is an enrolled member of the CTGR.
