The Title VI Program is under the direction of the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada and direction of the America on Aging (AoA) Title VI Native American Elders Program Coordinator (Deborah Horn). The program employs a cook who prepares daily meals for elders in the community. The program conforms to the Public Health and Safety requirements of the Indian Health Service.
Who is eligible for service?
Services are available to any American Indian enrolled in a federally recognized tribe 55 years of age or older, or anyone married to an American Indian 55 years of age or older, and caregivers residing in homes of homebound elders. For every elder participating with the Title VI Program, an in-take Form is filled out and sent to ITCN to be added to the registry.
How are meal guidelines met?
On a daily basis nutritional meals are prepared created by the University of Reno. Meals are balanced on a supplemental scale that is palatable and nutritional. Meals are scientifically met with dietary guidelines using the food pyramid, the menu are planned by using Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada adopted cycle menu books, these books are broke into quarters (summer, spring, fall, and winter).
How is the program funded?
The program is funding by the Inter-Tribal –Council of Nevada through a grant received from the Title VI national program. Meal are provided free of charge to all community members over age 55.
