History of Utilities on the Goshute Reservation
Indian Health Service in the past under trust responsibility began providing sanitary water wells and individual septic systems to individual homes for over 30 years.
Improvements
In 2007, the Goshute Utilities Department was created on a conditional assurance to USDA Rural Development, that the Goshute Tribe would provide maintenance to improvements funded by USDA-RD. This grant funding is to upgrade the sewer lagoon/pond and upgrade/repair drinking water pump houses as well as to put in a new pump, pump house and water tank on the Upper Reservation community.
Utility Fees
Since the Tribal Agreement for funding was to set utility fees for operation and maintenance funds for water and solid waste; an initial fee was set:
$5.00 water-$5.00 garbage
Target Fees developed during grant application.
June 1, 2008-$15.00 each
June 1, 2009-$20.00 each
June 1, 2010-$25.00 each
Fees go toward personnel, tools and equipment to provide:
“Safe and sanitary operation of drinking water, safe waste water system and collection of solid waste.”
